Welcome at the Department of Mathematics administered jointly by CEU and the Alfréd Rényi Institute of Mathematics, Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Our goal is to provide a scientific home, where you can acquire deep and applicable knowledge, and take part in creating new ideas in various areas of mathematics, like algebraic geometry, combinatorics, financial mathematics, functional analysis, group theory, low dimensional topology, number theory, representation theory, theory of algorithms or network science. Graduates will hold positions in industry, corporations, banks, research institutes, governmental and EU institutions, and a variety of research or academic fields
Our department offers two international degree programs, taught in English: the Master of Science (MS) Program in Mathematics and its Applications and the Doctoral (PhD) Program in Mathematics and its Applications. Both programs have been accredited by the New York State Education Department, United States. They have been designed in accordance with the structure and standards specified by the Bologna process, while at the same time maintaining American features. Thus, our programs are fully recognized and highly appreciated throughout the world. As a community of students, faculty and staff, the Department of Mathematics and its Application is committed to academic freedom, equal access to education and collegial self-governance.
Currently we have students coming from different countries: Albania, Australia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Georgia, Ghana, Hungary, Iceland, Moldova, Pakistan, Romania, Russian Federation, Slovakia, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, Ukraine, USA, Viet Nam. I would be happy if the geographical and cultural area of student recruitment extended to other countries. Our department offers a wonderful framework for educational and research cooperation, intercultural exchanges, and healthy social life.
