Professor at CEU (Central European University, Budapest) since 2002, after previously holding positions at the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University, Iasi (Romania) and University of Stuttgart (Germany). PhD earned in 1981 from the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University, under the supervision of Professors Viorel Barbu and Adolf Haimovici. Author or co-author of 15 books (monographs and textbooks) and a great number of research articles. Recipient (in 1983) of the Gheorghe Lazar Prize from the Romanian Academy. Appointed in 2008 as egyetemi tanár (university professor) by the President of Hungary. Doctor Honoris Causa of Ovidius University, Constanta, Romania since 2016. 

Main research interests: Differential and Difference Equations, Calculus of Variations, Evolution Equations in Banach Spaces, Singular Perturbation Theory, Various topics in Applied Mathematics.

ACHIEVEMENTS RELATED TO EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

* I have contributed to the implementation and US accreditation of the Ph.D. Program in Mathematics and its Applications of the Central European University, Budapest.

* I have prepared the proposal for launching a two year Master of Science (M.S.) Program in Applied Mathematics at the Central European University, Budapest. The program was accredited/registered in the US in 2008.

* 2001-2002 (15 months): Investigator, DFGWe659 - Conservation Laws and Electromagnetic Fields, University of Stuttgart, Germany

* 1991-2000: During this period I have been director of several grants offered by the Ministry of Education, Romania, or by the Romanian Academy. In addition, I have been a member of the research teams for further Romanian grants.
